Training For Qualified ADIs
Passing the exams and qualifying as Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency Approved Driving Instructor, DVSA ADI is an achievement.
In many other situations we continue to learn and develop throughout our lives.
If we want to learn something new, or improve a skill, we might be able to read a book, or use Google, but we might also consider some kind of course or training.
Many people will be attending classes or receiving training to learn or improve:
Art |
Carpentry |
Computer Skills |
Cookery |
Dance |
DIY |
Drawing |
Football |
Gardening |
Golf |
Hockey |
Netball |
Rugby |
Tennis |
Etc. |
Most companies provide some form of ongoing training for their employees throughout their entire career.
Why should either driving, or driving instruction be any different?
The learner driver that has just passed their driving test, may feel that they know everything, that they are the best driver in the world, and that they have nothing more to learn.
Unfortunately crash statistics say otherwise, and could they pass an ADI Part 2?
They may not want training, but they could actually benefit from it.
The newly qualified driving instructor, should feel proud of what they have achieved, but are they in danger of adopting the same thought process as our hypothetical newly qualified driver?
I know all that I need to know, I’m the best instructor in the world, I have nothing more to learn?
ADI CPD
CPD is an abbreviation for either Continuous Professional Development or Continuous Personal Development, and in many fields of work it is compulsory.
No one knows everything, we can all learn more, we can all learn new skills, we can all develop our existing skills further.
The driving instructor that qualifies, and then sits back, doing nothing to continue learning and developing, is in danger of being left behind by their colleagues.
ADI CPD can take various forms, some can be extremely expensive, and require a large time commitment, other CPD can be very cheap, sometimes even free, and require less time commitment.
ADI CPD can include; reading books or magazine articles; information on websites; webinars; podcasts; classroom courses or workshops; online courses; longer courses sometimes leading to a formal qualification; one to one training.
Driving Instructor Trainers is able to offer one to one training for qualified ADIs wanting to update, or improve their skills.
Training sessions can be tailored either towards Standards Check preparation, or towards any skill that the ADI wants to learn or develop.
